Victor S. D’Amore

Victor was born in New York City and grew up in the borough of Queens where he attended school.  He started his technical training at Brooklyn Tech High School and continued on at the City College of New York where he graduated with his Engineering Degree.

He drove a New York City Taxi Cab while putting himself through college continuing the work ethic of his parents Joseph and Domenica.  He held several Engineering positions around the country throughout his many year career and was still working as an Engineer until his sudden passing at 70 years of age.  He enjoyed the work and it was important to him to keep his mind sharp as he aged.

He was a fitness enthusiast from a young age following in the footsteps of his dad Joseph.  They both enjoyed weight lifting in the basement of the Queens home he grew up in.  He continued the practice of gym time each week until his passing.  Victor was also a talented guitar player.  He took lessons as a young boy and graduated to playing electric guitar and still played for pleasure until his passing.  He delighted our family by learning and playing traditional Italian songs.

Victor remained loyal to his New York Sports Teams rooting for the Giants, Yankees, and Knicks even though he lived in many cities throughout his career.  His love of traditional Italian food stayed with him throughout his life although he enjoyed many types of food and liked to experience the culinary delights of different cultures.

He became a mentor to young people over the years, helping them with college and job applications, prepping for job interviews and lending an ear with career questions.  One particular standout was an interview he gave to a young lady of about 8 years old who was curious about his life and where he grew up.  Her poise and questions were outstanding in one so young and Victor enjoyed spending time with her and her dad.

He was a very private person but did enjoy the company of some wonderful friends he met throughout his travels around the country and their friendship meant so much to him.  He got to enjoy the experience of flying in a small plane owned by a good friend and was so very excited about the opportunity to do that.  Victor loved his coffee and spent time with a friend in the apartment complex where he lived enjoying a cup or two while picking up his mail and just sharing family stories.

His life will be celebrated with a Catholic Mass in the state of Virginia where he is survived by his sister Donna, brother in law Tom and niece Jeanine.  May he rest in eternal peace in God’s loving embrace.
