Scott Peters

Scott Peters (11/02/1970 - 03/03/2026) beloved son, brother, and an exceptionally kindhearted West Olympia community member--passed away unexpectedly at the beginning of March, just as the cherry blossoms began to bloom.

Altruistic and tender from birth, Scott was an unwealthy but otherwise uninhibited philanthropist who loved any opportunity to act as a fairy godfather for his Westside community. Helping others was “what he lived for,” in his own words, and he had a way of making connections with just about anyone. He was, quite literally, the type of person to give a stranger the shirt off his back.

Scott hated wintertime but basked in the return of the light each year. In gentler seasons he could often be found sitting on his porch where he would await visits from friends and family, soak up the simple joys of flowers and birdsong, or hang with his beloved cat Weezy (who is well-loved and looked after by his aunt now). Known for his silly sense of humor that shone out in both conversations and text messages, he got a particular kick out of kids and loved to spoil them rotten whenever he could.

In his time here on Earth, Scott left a warm and lasting impression on many lives--which, at the end of the day, is all any of us can ask for. Though he wasn’t a man of means, his generosity and goodwill were truly outsized. He is survived by his mom, stepdad and stepmom, three siblings, and two nephews.

If you want to honor Scott and have the means, we ask that you show someone care today by bringing them a hot meal or buying them a bag of groceries. If you don't have the means, then do like Scott would do and admire some spring blooms, listen to the birds, or treat another person or living thing with kindness.
